On Wednesday we traded lines, or you told me I was awesome (thank you *bows*)
Today I'm going to show you another thing that I do to help.
Photos.
I have an account on shutterstock photo, on istock photo, and now, on I heart it.
Honestly, I find better pics on I heart it than anywhere else - the problem is getting permissions . . .
BUT - these are all believed to be part of public domain, and are pictures that I've collected to go with Insight (which I've been using all week).
And yes, pictures help me SO SO SO much.
And most of you already know that I love to do mock book covers.
I'll spare you from those today - mostly because I've changed my mind a million times, and that's good because I've learned how little control we have over the covers, and having something too "set"in my mind is definitely not a good thing . . .
The woods and the ocean play a HUGE role in this book, so I definitely couldn't ignore that. Touching is a HUGE deal for her, so I liked finding pictures with hand holding. No guy has been a good enough Landon. Well . . . maybe the guy at the top . . . but you can barely SEE him there, lol.
Yeah, this one is pretty sexy, which went really well with version #1, or #4, or . . . I lost track.
I think this girl and that bright grey/blue eye is my fav.
I love the whimsy in this one.
I love the funky quality of this one. The hands, and her eye. Very cool.
Do you use photos to help you focus? Or is there something else that helps you get in the mood for writing a particular story?
(Yes, music is HUGE for me, but I've done LOADS of posts on music. It's just been a while)

Photography definitely gets me inspired. I will see a photo and instantly picture a scene in my head.
These are all great photos!
I'm such a visual person so I always look at pictures for inspiration. Right now stills from Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Spiderman, and Batman have been plastered on my wall about my computer to help me out with current ms I'm revising :)
That is quite interesting! I am not sure photos or pictures inspire me, but I am going to give it a try. For me, it is the act of walking that brings inspiration, for whatever reason...
I use pictures to figure out what my characters look like and how to describe them. For example, right now I have a Dad who looks like Gandhi, a young Mel Gibson, and Bob from the Biggest Loser. I sometimes use pictures to describe scenes too.
I have a picture in my mind's eye when I write. I've never really thought to try to find a real image to depict this imagined image. I think scenery and still life pics inspire me more than pics of people.
I love looking at the pictures that represent people's books but I've never thought of doing it myself. I don't really use pictures for inspiration other than the ones in my head. I have considered doing a quilt of how I've imagined the cover.
I've never used pictures, but I'm a VERY visual person so I really should use them. Thanks for the tip :)
I don't use photos, but music is a must. I'm going to have to try the photo thing and see how it goes. ;)
I don't do it very often. I always want to, but it's so hard for find the perfect ones and I end up sending three days doing it instead of writing, because once I start, I can't stop. lol.
I go through periods of time where I do the photo thing and times I don't.
I LOVE all these pics. The first one is so fun and sexy and sensual all at the same time. The last one is just awesome.
I use pictures to help me. I try not to find a picture of my character until after I have a clear picture though. Maybe a pic of eyes or hand or something.
Fab photos, Jo! So... tell me. How do you find all these awesome pics? I never find any THIS awesome! Maybe I'm a bad internet surfer. :(
Whoa! Interesting! I've never used photos as inspiration... in fact, I'm not really into photos at all. (I was born into a family that never took pictures, lol!)
But seeing how stunning some of these photos are, I can see how inspiration can be drawn from them. Verrrry cool.
I love to look at pictures and photos, but not for my writing. It just doesn't happen for me.
LOVE the pics!!
I don't usually use pics to get inspired, but I "use" people in real life to get me inspired. Like sometimes I get a few traits/virtues/flaws of people I know and put them in my characters! :P
And nope--I don't use music either. I love music so much that I pay attention to the music and forget about everything else!
