Sugar, Chocolate, and Books

When I have my favorite snack in front of me...

Salt, dark chocolate and toffee? Yes, please. Also, I have to drive 50 miles to Anchorage for these bars, and they're worth it.

I rarely open a bag without polishing it off the same da

I blame my husband for these, because I never buy the things, but they're just so cute, bite sized, and deliciously sugary.

And I KNOW as I sit with my bag of potato chips/chocolate/sugar that I've probably eaten more than I realize, but I think - eh, just ONE more. ONE more.
One more.
And then I KNOW (again) that I've definitely crossed the line between snacking and gorging myself, and then I think - this is NOT going to look good on my arse, but at this point, I might as well eat the rest of the stupid bag and get it over with. And then I tell myself that I'll run an extra mile tonight, or do a couple extra miles on the bike (in my pathetic defense, I nearly always do)

This is what it's like to read a really, really good book.
One more chapter.
One more chapter.
Crap - kindle says I only have 30% left, that's NOTHING, and it's not midnight... quite yet... I could probably get away with not climbing out of bed 'til eight tomorrow...

And yep - $0.99  to $8.99 devoured in a few hours. And SO worth it. AND doesn't really change my arse any ;-D

Happy Monday and welcome to my post of randomness...

Favorite snack?
Favorite books?
Specific snacks to go with specific types of books?? Because I know you're out there . . .

My husband is kind and brings me my favorite snacks - dark chocolate and pommegranite (not together). Then I am ready to dive into my own book!

My snack of choice is Hot Tamales!

Hmm..I will basically snack on anything. I do love pretzels, though. And anything Reese's is good. After I eat something really sweet I need something salty, and vice versa... vicious cycle!

Favourite snack...gosh, where do I start?!?! I love food, love love love it. I love it nearly more than I love life. hehe. I'm a fan of carrots/hommus, kettle chips (yay!), CHOCOLATE, ice cream, lollies and...well, I could go on. I really could.

Favourite books...yeah, again, where do I start!?

I can't even count how many times I've just gone ahead and finished off the bag of whatever it is because really, why just leave a few behind that wouldn't satisfy a mouse?

I'm a chocolate lover too. And toffee, oh, delicious. I haven't had any in ages. I'm a cookie fanatic. I keep telling myself one more or one more after this page of writing. Where do all the cookies go?!

You had me at the tittle....

Anything Reeses is good, and I have a thing for Peanut M&M's. Actually I really like either of those on ice cream. Or oreos. To of my favorite snacks though are chips and salsa (which I don't eat while reading or writing. Bad experience) or popcorn.

I don't have favorite foods for favorite books (except when I read books that take place in Asia and talk about food because then I HAVE to order Chinese) But I'm a mood eater and a mood reader so there most likely is some correlation.

Sorry it's such a long comment. You know, food, gets a girl talking.

Haha. For all the reasons you mentioned, diet coke is my 'go to' snack for writing. :)

You want random? My 3yo boy discovered he could hop on one foot today. He said, "I just growed up!"

Favorite snack? Hands down strawberry Haagen Daaz ice cream. Oh so good and oh so bad.
Favorite book? Emma by Jane Austen, I named my daughter after the book. Then without realizing it I named her sister Isabella! (Also the sister's name in the book)
I'm excited to find your blog:) because I'm writing in the young adult genre also and I lived for a year in Alaska when I was nine.

This post and these comments make me feel sort of snacky. Favourite snacks? Chocolate, hands down. I am a one more chapter kind of girl, too.

Oh those Recess mini's. *Homer Simpson drool*

And I think I read The Hunger Games in one sitting. As well as Loving Emily, Fablehaven, every Harry Potter book, and ahem... The Next Door Boys. ;)

I dropped three pounds after the holidays and then hubby came home with a case of reeses peanut butter cups, a jumbo bag of peanut m&m's and a package of dark chocolate covered pommegranite seeds. Sheesh.

I totally do this. I don't even feel bad about it anymore. It's less reading a book in one night than getting two Starbucks fancy drinks and SO much more enjoyable that I've learned to let go of the guilt.
But I am the opposite...I snack way less when I'm reading. I'm too busy saying "no way" to fill my mouth with food.

LOL. You are hilarious. I'm all about chocolate and lately I've been on a jerky kick and apple slices. I constantly have the munchies, and no- I'm not smoking weed or pregnant - just hungry! (lol)... So I have to have a snack I can eat a ton of without having to find extra hours for the gym. Also... just finished BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS, I'LL BE DEAD by Julie Anne Peters. You should read it.

Those mini Reese's things are dangerously good. If a bag gets opened in my house, it gets emptied right away.

I don't tend to snack while reading though because I don't want anything to get on the books.

Is it weird that I like to eat Triscuits when I write? My hubby calls them "old people food". I guess I'm old... ;) And I've been on a contemporary reading kick lately. Who knew? :)

I. LOVE. THOSE. KETTLE. CHIPS. !!!!!!

I'm more of a salt girl than a sugar girl...but if it's real chocolate (non of that Hershey crap) then I'm there!!!! :D Yummmm...Thanks Jolene, I'm going to blame you for my next 5 pounds...

Baked goods beat out candy in my book any day. I love salty and sweet together. My sister makes some mean salty and sweet brownies that I could eat all night long.

I love everything. I wont turn anything down unfortunately! Salty, sugary, fatty, greasy...whatever. THat is why I am going to the gym right now!

Yummy! I'm with you for all of it, but cheddar sour cream and onion Chips for me. And don't forget about taco bell...of course that's more of a meal, but definatley a snack the way we do it;)

My hubby and I polished off a package of Grasshopper (thin mints) cookies last night. I just can't stop eating them and I don't even realize how many I've eaten. I found out last night that the roof of my mouth is the exact size of one of those cookies. The first one stuck and I couldn't get it out.

I am so that way with a good book. Just one more page.

Reading a great book is exactly like that! I love it when a book is so so good I can't put it down no matter how late it's getting or how much my eyelids want to close!

My favorite snacks are anything chocolate. When I'm writing I love mixing chocolate with something salty: Goobers, peanut M&Ms, chocolate-covered pretzels. At least with the choco-covered peanuts I'm getting some protein! ;)

those are my favorite chips!!!! Love them and I eat a whole back in one day too!

Now you've made me crave snacks... especially the mini reeses's... yumo. I love it when I get so caught in a book I can't put it down...

Kristin Baker Przybyla said...

Oh my gosh, will you give me some of that chocolate?? One of my favorites is dark chocolate with sea salt. Sexy.

Heidi Willis said...

Ha ha!! That chocolate looks AMAZING!! When I was in college I could polish off an entire package of chocolate covered graham crackers while writing a short story. I have to be a little more careful now. :)

Books are a healthier addiction, of course, although not less expensive. And at least I can put away the snacks to go to sleep. Books... not so much.

I love how you turn Scottish when you swear. :)

I'm not a huge snacker when I read or write or in general, but lately (thank you pregnancy) I've been craving cheese and milk. I hate a 1/2 block of cheese in two days this week and drank a whole gallon of milk by myself in three days.

Although, I read a book a few years ago where the main character owned a bakery and I think I gained 5 lbs just from reading the book.

Such a great description of snacking. That is totally the thought process I have.

Favorite snack (this week anyway) is chocolate covered pomegranates and my favorite book this week is Miss Peregrines School for Peculiar Children.

Woohoo! I love randomness, and chocolate...even better. My favorite snack (this week) is a spoonful of peanut butter sprinkled with chocolate chips. So good. ;)
